2012 la Fee Modele Melusine

This unique Selmer style guitar was built in Vaureal, France by the young guitar building duo of Vincent Lottenberg and Jonathan Berg. To better meet the needs of the contemporary Gypsy guitarist, these luthiers have adapted the traditional Selmer guitar design in a way which makes it more comfortable, easier to play, and fuller in tone. The result is a guitar which looks and sounds smooth, modern, and elegant.

Visually, the most noticeable feature of this instrument is the oversized, elliptical lower bout which is paired with an undersized, shallow upper bout. This configuration helps provide a comfortable position for your right arm while increasing higher fret access for the left hand. Playability is further enhanced by the short, 655mm scale which makes left hand stretches much easier. The cutaway is particularly deep, extending all the way to 18th fret, while the treble side of the upper bout gently slopes towards the heel. The fingerboard features the clean look popular with contemporary archtop makers, with the only inlay being the la Fee flower logo at the 12th fret. The austere fingerboard is paired with gorgeous, highly figured woods on the body and neck. The back and sides were constructed from solid Madagascar rosewood. The neck was fashioned from a beautiful piece of flamed maple which features a Madagascar rosewood headstock veneer.

Sometimes you can judge a book by it's cover, and this guitar is one such example. It sounds as it looks: unique, modern, and stylish. This instrument posses a robust midrange that dominates the tonal palette. Highs are very round, never harsh, while the bass is clear and present. The most notable characteristic is the strength and complexity of the lower mids....an area that is chronically underrepresented in Selmer Maccaferri guitars. This guitar has a wonderful fullness that emanates from it's strong low-mid resonance. This rare quality makes this instrument very forgiving, easy to record, and adaptable to many genres. A perfect guitar for the modern Gypsy or multi-genre hybrid player.
