This MD-20 is my favorite of all the Duponts I have ever had my hands on. I am partial to maple guitars, and this is the most beautiful one yet. The woods are nicely aged to a sort of honey tone, the flame is stunning, and the ebony binding is a very nice touch. The sound is just as Michael described it, very rich and thick, with an almost Favino-like quality, thanks to the thicker mids and more powerful bass than is typical of Duponts. It plays like a dream. I thought the original setup w...

1994 Dupont MD-20

1994 Dupont MD-20
This wonderful guitar was built in Dupont's early days when he was just making a name for himself, building each guitar himself. These older models have gained a reputation as being from Dupont's "Golden Period" and have become highly coveted among those looking for the ultimate Dupont. This MD-20 model features SOLID maple back and sides. Very few of these have been made and are easily one of Dupont's rarest models. A new one would cost $5500 new, so this guitar is a bargain at $4500.

Dupont guitars are generally known for their high end sparkle, dry tone, and cutting power. This MD-20 is a little different. Without a doubt, it has the thickest mids of any Dupont oval hole I've ever come across. If you're looking for a guitar that produces thick single note lines, than this is it! Single notes are warm, round, and thick, yet have enough punch to keep you from getting lost in the din. Like most Duponts, it is very dry with an ultra clear and direct sound. Chords are equally thick sounding so rhythm and chord melody playing are very satisfying on this instrument.

In addition to the gorgeous solid tiger maple back and sides, this guitar has a European spruce top, maple neck, and classic looking ebony binding. It has Kluson closed tuners that Dupont used in this era.

Like all the MD series guitars, this guitar has standard Selmer specs: 15 3/4" body, 670mm scale, 1 3/4" nut.

It has two top cracks but they are only superficial and don't go all the way through the top (one is between the sound hole and fingerboard, the other is between the soundhole and bridge.) This guitar has recently had the frets dressed and has been professionally setup for maximum playability and tone.
Hardshell case included.

A fabulous Dupont

This MD-20 is my favorite of all the Duponts I have ever had my hands on. I am partial to maple guitars, and this is the most beautiful one yet. The woods are nicely aged to a sort of honey tone, the flame is stunning, and the ebony binding is a very nice touch. The sound is just as Michael described it, very rich and thick, with an almost Favino-like quality, thanks to the thicker mids and more powerful bass than is typical of Duponts. It plays like a dream. I thought the original setup would be too low, so Michael's shop installed a new bridge and set it up to my spec. They also moved the fret markers back to 10 where they belong. All the work was of the highest quality - setup is excellent, and you have to look really close to see where the fret markers were before.
