This is one exceptional vintage instrument. It has a beautiful, well-balanced tone and cutting power galore without being harsh. Very sweet sounding, just does everything really, really well. It is very responsive and easy to play. Light as a feather. Very distinctive looking, you'll never mistake it for anything else, and the condition is outstanding for an instrument of this vintage. 1960s Jacques Castelluccia

1960s Jacques Castelluccia
Now this is one exciting guitar! A true sleeper....something with the qualities of the best Gypsy guitars in the world but at a player's price.

This fantastic instrument was built sometime in the 1960s by Jacques Castelluccia. Castelluccia was one of the many famous Sicilian luthiers to make his name in France (along with Busato, DiMauro, Catania, Anastasio, Bucolo, etc.)

While the price of guitars made by Busato (along with other Italian makers such as Favino and Maccaferri) have skyrocketed in recent years, Castelluccia's have been largely overlooked. But after playing this guitar, I think anyone would agree that Castelluccia was also capable of building guitars on par with his more famous contemporaries.

This instrument features Selmer like dimensions: 670mm scale, a slightly larger 15 7/8" body, but is only 3 1/2" deep. At 3.6 lbs it is among the lightest guitars I've ever had in the shop. The back and sides are Mahogany, the top is Spruce, and the neck is Rosewood. It features a combination of ivoroid and walnut binding. The tailpiece was replaced with a nickel DR.

The condition is astounding! It has a few scratches and dings, mostly on the back and the bottom. The top is very clean, almost looks new! The neck was replaced a long time ago. The original necks are extremely large and uncomfortable. The replacement neck is very modern and easy to play.

Playability is great and compares well to any new guitar. It is currently strung with 11 gauge Argentines and has 3.5mm action. It has new frets and the neck was recently reset.

Soundwise this guitar is an absolute gem! It has everything people look for in the best Gypsy guitars: good projection, dryness, clarity, and balance. When describing the tone of this guitar, the word "pure" comes to mind. It has the clarity that you often only hear in the best Busatos. This guitar is extremely loud yet it is ultra clear with none of the annoying overtone ringing that so many guitars suffer from. It is one of the rare D holes that can keep up with ovals for leads. Single notes are thick with mids but there is enough high end to give your leads clarity and definition. And chords just sound huge on this thing! All in all, it's a Busato killer for less than half the price. This guitar will make someone very happy!

This model was made famous by Dorado Schmitt who played a similar Castelluccia in the Bireli Lagrene's Live Jazz a Vienne  DVD.

This very guitar was used as a model for Bob Holo's own Castelluccia inspired designs.

Killer guitar!

Soundwise, it compared very favorably at Django in June to a vintage Busato and a vintage Di Mauro, both of which were very popular with campers and artists alike. There's really nothing to fault in this guitar and a lot to love.
