Bob Holo's AMAZING F hole guitar

Postby dennis » Tue Feb 17, 2009 3:03 pm

here's a clip of the guitar with a dearmond pickup

www.myspace.com/latches (it's on Stomping at the Savoy)

the other tune is on an AJL guitar..

When I tried Bob's guitar with a dearmond in portland , I immediately fell in love; the sound had that old school django electric stimer sound... He was kind enough to lend it to me (I'm supposed to send it back , but I 'm constantly playing with it, the guitar practically plays itself) ... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU BOB!!!!!

I recorded 3 tunes with the bob holo + dearmond + Fender blues junior combination .

Blush... got to... fit... head through.... door.... ;-)

Thanks for the kind words, guys. That guitar will definitely turn into a model. I've been working on a more reliable way to get that amplified sound. DeArmond made a great pickup, but they're old and just not reliable enough for a touring musician. Dennis had to find one to do his recording because mine went south just before he went into the studio. At any rate, more on that later as things develop - still in early design stages.

It was an honor, Dennis - I'm really looking forward to the album and if I can get away from the bench long enough to put up my website, I'll feature the album.

Yep, that's it. I like Dennis' rhythm on that clip - it has a real weight to it - he's doing that slightly off the beat gypsy thing which is just so cool. In American swing jazz it's called laying back - I'm not sure what it's called in French - it's a different technique somehow - but with a similar effect - messing with the downbeat just enough to make the rhythm chug like a train.

Sure... I just don't have time for the website right now. I try really hard to not pimp wares here, but people have been asking for pics of this guitar to show the antiquing stuff for a while and I just have to prioritize building guitars over web development so here's what I have at this point - haven't photographed it for the web; just a pic I took on the bench during final setup.

... and there's the treble moustache missing too.

I keep hearing so many good things about Bob Holo's guitars that if I buy a new one I know just the man to call. Seriously all the comments are like "Better than Dupont", "the best american luthier"... and all from real top players!

I cant wait to try one!

That was discussed in the thread here where the dailies from the video were posted. He really likes it. Was it an Eimers? You could search.
