Please help me find some dark gypsy jazz like this!

in FAQ Posts: 4
went to New Orleans the other week and heard these two street performers playing the slowest creepiest gypsy jazz(from what I was told this is the style this is, but im not entirely sure) ive ever heard and I fell in love. It was a guitarist using a resonating acoustic(it sounds like a banjo so i could be wrong) and a vocalist who had that deep Louis Armstrong type of voice, he also played the trumpet. Please help me find some artists similar. or help me find the correct genre. I have a small clip of them playing. I hope that helps give the idea of what im talking about. Thanks so much in advanced.

This jam with the Rosenbergs on this tune has quite a cool, dark mood

If by 'dark' you mean minor keys there's tons...

    Not really slow:

Most GJ tends to be a bit faster even the ballads....

I always thought of this version of Indifference by Les Doigts de l'Homme to be very moody

Of course add to that their version of St James Infirmary which is a dark theme to begin with

Perhaps a different kind of dark, but check out a player named Brandon Cambell

  • I heard the first clip and immediately thought "the blues."

Actually now when Jim said that, light went on that there are a lot of Time Waits songs that sound like the first clip: Gun Street Girl, Blow Wind Blow, Chocolate Jesus...
