Pick Density

I'm sorry if this has been addressed before...

While the typical GJ pick is thick, and strong(ish), the picks I've seen from Wegen, AK, Moustache, etc. all tend to be very lite-weight. Literally. I would think that playing a heavier pick would also affect the tone that you acheived. Has anyone experimented with playing picks of similar shapes and thicknesses, but with differing weights?

Yes... in fact I made a few out of fossilized walrus tusk. They one I like the best is about 4mm and shaped like a Wegan GJ pick. I really like the weight however the ivory is just too porous and after about an hour or so of hard playing the pick starts to rub and squeak on the strings. So I'm back to the Wegan.

The bone picks seem pretty dense. I wonder if someone that has had that Pearse sarod number for a while could give us some feedback.
