Anniversary

DJANGO REINHARDT, legendary gypsy guitarist, teamed with STEPHANE
GRAPPELLI, renowned jazz violinist in the 30’s in France to
create “The Hot Club de France” and a new style of Jazz that became
knows as “hot jazz”. They took Europe by storm and became one of
the most important musical partnerships in history. The music has
its roots in American popular music and in the reverence for Duke
Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and other great American jazz figures.

DORADO SCHMITT carries on Django’s legacy playing with amazing
virtuosity and a like originality that inspires guitarists all over the
world. And like Django, Dorado is a highly regarded Composer.
Born in the Lorraine region of France, he was brought up in a
musical family with a father who was a violinist and so he also passed
the baton to his son SAMSON SCHMITT, already one of the stars of gypsy
guitar on the horizon. Both appear at The Spirit of Django and
Grappelli as regulars on the NY scene’ by popular demand’ having
appeared at the famous Django Reinhardt Festival at Birdland for many
years.

PETER BEETS, from Holland, joins the group and is a young, brilliantly
talented jazz pianist, with a special inclination to the musical
style of Django and a sympatico with the gypsy musicians.

REGINA CARTER is the ‘Special Guest’ carrying on the legacy of the
great jazz violinist STEPHANE GRAPPELLI on this occasion. Regina
has her own band and tours major concerts halls and Fetival around
the world, but tonight she pays homage to one of her heros, the
great Grappelli upon what would have been his 100th anniversary! She
also makes history by performing with the legendary Dorado Schmitt….it
will be a first !

Add to this BUCKY PIZZARELLI who played and performed with Grappelli
for years, including several Carnegie Hall events. BRIAN TORFF, also a
regular, will be on bass (and some hosting). He also
toured with the great Grappelli for years. HOWARD ALDEN – also
known for his talent in ‘hot jazz’ as well as having perfomed on
Woody Allen’s film about Django, “Sweet and Lo Down”, appears as
well.

Another special musician who will Guest at the concert is HARRY ALLEN
as he is as ‘hot’ a player as is Hot Jazz, and the gypsies love him !
Add to all this tasty percussionist ALVESTER GARNET.

The music will bring you sheer joy and feelings of romance.

Be prepared to smile a lot, rock a lot, and enjoy the romantic
nature of this incredible music and its execution.
