Gypsy Picking + Sight Reading

Lately, I've been thinking about how my reading chops have dropped since using gypsy picking. At the moment, it's a little too daunting to read and think about picking direction.
What are your opinions about sight reading using gypsy picking?
I understand it's not part of Manouche tradition to read music, but I want to explore some new territory with it.

Basically, it's like any other technique. You just have to practice it so much that it becomes second nature. The biggest challenge with sight reading is really the left hand...it's so hard to find the best position on the fly.
