Biréli: Certain Je Ne Sais Quoi

edited June 2006 in Repertoire Posts: 67
Hi, can anyone help me with the chords for this song? I have been trying for a while to get it down but I am struggling. I reckon it's a blues progression with some different chords thrown in, but I'm losing it in the quick changes, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Gray

    graham,
GREAT TUNE! I really like this one . . . I haven't however got the chords on the head, the chords for the solos are as follows
    F "bird" blues
    F69/F69/F69/F69-F7/
    BB13/Bdim/F69-e69/eb69-d9/
    Gm6/C9/f69-d9/db9-calt/

try those and let me know.

the head starts with f69 for 3.5 bars then c9? back to f- for four beats then I am not sure any more.

a Bird blues has more ii-Vs then that. See the changes for Blues for Alice...that's what the Bireli tune is based on.

    good luck!

I don't have the recording on me now, but I think Ben's chords for solos look about right.

However it couldn't really be called a bird blues, which would look something like this:

    Fmaj7 | Emin7b5 A7b9 | Dmin7 G7 | Cmin7 F7 |
    Bbmaj7 | Bbmin7 Eb7 | Amin7 D7 | Abmin7 Db7 |
    Gmin7 | C7 | then two bar turnaround

Ah thanks for that, that's a real help have got loads of stuff to play with now. There was a nice video on google or youtube which isn't there now where he drops an F augmented chord (I think) in occasionally on the head, just thought I'd share that with you I really like it.

    Michael and Nwilkins-
yeah yeah! Odd . . . back in school some teacher (read not a pro player) introduced us to major blues (as in not based entirely on dominant chords) by calling au privave (sp?) . . . Scince then I always call a major blues a bird blues (stupid music school, stupid student~!). any way I guess it has less ii-V's, but still very major . . .
    Thanks fellas.
    B.
Ps. anyone got the head yet? I got the melody pretty good- no the chords though.

    Theme
    F7/ F7/ F7/ F7/ F7/ Db7/ Db7/ Bb7/ Gm7/ Bm7/ Fm7/ Db7/ (REPEAT)

    F7/ F7/ F7/ F7/ F7/ Db7/ Db7/ Bb7/ Gm7/ Bm7/ Fm7/ Db7/ F7/

    Over the solo something like...

    F7/ F7/ F7/ F7/ Bb7/ B DIM/ F7/ Amin7b5 D7/ Gm7/ C7/ F7 Ab7/ G7 Gb7/

    I think.

    Cheers.
