Question: Shadow Maccaferri Pickup installation

Hello! I just bought a Shadow gypsy jazz pickup, and as easy as it seems to be mounted I think that I'm not doing things right. By positioning it under the bridge just as indicated, it seems to numb a lot the acoustic sound of the instrument, especially on 1st string. I think it might be due to the laminated plastic cover over the pickup itself, but I don't want to rush and remove it by force as it is not indicated anywhere that it should be. There is not much information on the installation of this particular pickup on the internet, especially explaining this occasion, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I used to have K&K Pure floating bridge.
While the two probably sound different amplified, I imagine they will affect the acoustic sound similarly, which in my case took away from the high end.
