Super Lightweight Foam Case ?

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a lightweight foam case that fits a Selmer size guitar, has anyone found one?

Thanks!
Jason

My advice would be to get a hard shell case...
But for a foam case / bag I know Craig only had good things to say about Reunion Blues. I have a Bam foam bag, that's really awesome.
I used to use a TKL padded gig bag, that was pretty good, but not a case.
Since I am here (UK) I've seen people using Ashbury foam case that looks great as well.

Otherwise you can find here all the steps to DIY.

As Joli Gadjo says, I do like my Reunion Blues case, but the model I have is no longer available from Reunion Blues. The case fits very snug, no slop at all and the padding is just right. Lightweight and tough, I have always felt my guitar was very secure, more secure than in a hard case at times because the lighter weight means less inertia. I got mine used about five years ago and I never wanted anything else. I lugged a guitar in a hard case to a gig last night, ugh!

Glenn Cronkhite is the original founder of Reunion Blues. He sold the company a while back and the models changed. Glenn, however, retained the rights to his patterns and is making cases under his own name. A buyer of one of my guitars discovered all this and had Glenn make a custom case to fit his new guitar. It appears to be every bit as good, if not better, than my old RB case. The size is standard Selmer body size (400mm x 470mm), 14 fret, 670 scale, tall headstock. Glenn saved the pattern under my name as well as the buyer's. I'll leave it to Glenn to represent his product further as I have no commercial connection in this, just a recommendation.

    Thanks guys!

JG- Thanks for the link to the DIY. I hadn't thought about that route...

CG-Thanks for the link to Cronkhite. I have a Levy's gig bag that is pretty decent and my brother has a leather Reunion Blues bag that kicks butt so I know what you mean about good protection. It's great to know that he's making custom fits.

I really wish I could use the hard case but I have weight restrictions. I think a polyfoam case would be a little more protective for me than a gig bag. I'm thinking of the times when you take a break and need to walk away from the stage, leaving the guitar in a gig bag leaned up against a wall makes me sweat!

I don't know how well this fits the post but supposedly, you can carry your guitar on airplanes. Here are a couple of links about the new regulations: http://www.guitarworld.com/acoustic-nation-alert-you-can-carry-your-guitar-it-s-law

Awesome. I'm going to print that out and put it in my guitar case when I fly to DIJ :)

It may be personal tic on my part, but I've always preferred something with a bit of rigidity--my favorites for years were the old ProTec trapezoidal cases, which used both foam and a solid (Masonite?) top and back for crush resistance. I've not been able to determine whether their current, guitar-shaped cases share this construction formula, so I bought a Travelite polyfoam for my GS-Mini that seems to have similar rigidity and crush resistance. They make a dreadnought-size model that ought to accomodate a Selmer-style. (My Dunn fits in the old ProTec dread-size cases.) The Travelite is even lighter than the equivalent old ProTec--which might mean that there's no Masonite in it. But I don't mind flying with it, or lugging it through airports.

    Thanks guys.

Jim- Does the Wolf Pak push down on the bridge of your Selmer? The specs say 3.5" depth which I think could be a little shallow for my guitar.

Russell- I'll check out the Travelite. I can't fly so I'm not worried too much about having masonite. Ideally I'll find a polyfoam case that just provides more protection than a gig bag and is around 6lbs. or less. I know something's out there.

I saw that Dennis posted a new type of Tric case and I'm going to search to find the right depth for a Selmer. I'm not sure which exact model he got. If anyone knows please post here!
