i stole this one from my buddy ritary

it works over Bb7 or E7... and it's all downstrokes

he uses it a lot, and it can especially be seen on the donna lee video, that i masterfully filmed at DFNE 2004....

http://ritaryensemble.free.fr/francais/video4.html

btw he s playing on the collins guitar that i now own...

Speaking of Michael Collins, he's currently in the hospital with colitis. I spoke with him yesterday and he seems to be getting better, but still he's been through the wringer. This post was inyesterday's hot club forum:

He's feeling much better and wouldn't mind hearing from friends and fans. His direct line is: 416-586-5900 X 7431

Says the Favino plans are ready in 2 weeks and the book in 2 months. Has no access to e-mail, so if you've been trying to e-mail him, he sincerely apologizes. He may be out tomorrow, but most likely will be spending the weekend.

Ritary's lick is very cool and - not to be heretical - it is very similar to a lick that Jack Lawrence uses in the stop-time section of the Beaumont Rag with Doc Watson.

    Hey Dennis,

You showed us a Ritary lick at the workshop here, but I can't remember it. It was a diminished thing, maybe 3 or 4 notes, very repetitive, and I remember it made everyone smile-it had a kind of humor to it. Any ideas?

    Best,
    Jack.

hmmm the only other diminished thing that ritary loves to do that i can think of is this one:
e-13-10-----10------------------------------------------
    b---------12-----12-9-12-9-----9-----------------------
    g-----------------------------10----10-7-etc------------
    d----------------------------------------------------------
    a----------------------------------------------------------
    e----------------------------------------------------------
D U D D D U

    is that it???

oh wait, he uses this quite often as well (not as frequently as the other but..)
e-13-10-----------------------------------10---
    b---------12---------------------------12-------
    g-------------13-10------------10-13----------
    d---------------------12-9-12-------------------
    a------------------------------------------------
    e------------------------------------------------
depending on the tempo, the bottom B can be U (fast tempo) or D (slow/medium tempo)
